Burngreave Library Volunteer Case Study

Volunteering is a great way of not only building your own skills but also helping your local community. Burngreave Library wouldn't be what it is today without the fantastic team of volunteers based there. Read on to hear from David, one of our Library Assistants:

I looked on SOAR’s website for volunteering roles, saw the Library Assistant role and thought maybe I can use my IT experience for some good.

I love it, it’s brilliant. I wake up and think ‘It’s library day!’ and there’s a burst of energy. I like organising and responsibility and empowering other people. The library gives me this opportunity. The people I work with are absolutely fabulous.

My long-term goal is to have the library open 4 days a week.

I enjoy meeting the customers and volunteering here has made me more open.
