Employment Coach Case Study

SOAR provides an established employment service. Working with a range of people, from young job seekers just out of education to those with long-term health conditions, we continue to lead, support and empower individuals to value their transferable skills and recognise their capabilities.

Lynn had self-referred to SOAR Community Employment Service, since taking redundancy from being a Physical Activity Referral Instructor working in the Fitness & Leisure sector.

She was interested in a change of role/sector but felt a little out of touch about where to start. With this in mind we structured a strong action plan, as well as reassuring her that her transferable skills would add significant value to a variety of roles & sectors.

Throughout our regular weekly meetings whilst using our service, we provided:

  • Help with a CV

  • Job searching sessions

  • Support with online applications

  • Specially tailored suitability statements to gain interviews

Additionally, we helped with interview practice, techniques and ongoing support to help build her confidence.

She was successful at interview and started her employment as a Wellbeing Coach at SOAR within our Health Team. See comments below from her manager:

"With her many training qualifications and experience, Lynn is able to support clients referred through the Social Prescribing route and has already supported clients to make Healthy Lifestyle changes, lose weight and improve their emotional wellbeing. Lynn has completed a Wellbeing Coach training programme that uses coaching techniques to empower clients to take control of their health to reach their health goals. Lynn will discuss with the client what they want to achieve and help them put a plan in place that may include joining Lynn’s weekly local Walk & Talk group or her gentle fitness sessions."

Lynn says: "The support I received from Annie at SOAR's Employment Service was amazing, she worked on my CV, she helped me massively with job applications and she gave me lots of tips and advice for interviews. Being in my previous job for almost 17 years I was a little out of touch but she gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to gain employment. She really did go above and beyond to help me, I cannot praise her enough."
