Wellbeing Coach Chronic Pain Support

Our Wellbeing Coaches often support people with chronic pain, working with them to make changes to their lifestyles, diets, and find ways to manage their pain on a day-to-day basis. Keep reading to see how we supported Khaled:

Khaled was referred into SOAR by her GP, as she has been dealing with persistent back pain over the past few years. It started gradually but has become a daily challenge that affects her sleep, mood, and ability to do the things she loves. On top of that, Khaled has been struggling with her weight, which she feels may be making the pain worse.

As a full-time caregiver for her daughters, Khaled rarely takes time for herself. Most of her day is spent on her feet cooking, cleaning, running errands, and making sure everyone else is okay. Despite her back pain, she pushes through each day.

Now, Khaled is ready to make a change! She wants to feel better, move more freely, and have more energy for herself.

One of our Wellbeing Coaches, Naheen, met up with Khaled and talked through 10 simple, manageable steps she could take to begin easing her pain. These are small steps designed to not be overwhelming, but small changes that could easily fit into her busy life and start making a real difference: such as gentle stretching in the morning, improving posture when lifting or standing, finding moments of rest, and learning to listen to what her body needs.

Naheen also shared with Khaled the details of our weekly women's chronic pain group. It’s a safe, welcoming space where women come together to share their stories, encourage one another, and offer practical tips and emotional support. When I mentioned it, Khaled agreed to attend. She liked the idea of being around others who understand what it’s like to carry pain silently while caring for everyone else. She said she’d love to connect with women going through the same things.

Khaled now attends and enjoys the women's group weekly, and is committing to incorporating the small changes to help make her pain more manageable.
