The Great, Local Outdoors

‘What’s My Game’ – Claire’s blog!

Lots of people have been telling us about all the ways they’ve spent time outside during the last year. Whether discovering new local trails, building dens, cycling, or listening to bird song, almost everyone seems to agree that being outside helped us get through. The experts tell us that being outside in the fresh air is also safer, and, right now, that’s what we all want.

Have you got a story about the outside? It could be recent, or from years ago. Something you’d like to share? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Looking ahead to the summer, lots of families have said they would like to get outdoors this year, be with nature, be healthier, and spend time together. Sound like you? I’m thinking bug hotels, birdsong recordings, arty forests, dens in the woods, outdoor theatre, bike trails and hide and seek.

To help me plan and create, I’m looking for help. Who from? I’m particularly interested in Shiregreen residents, especially families, and also anyone local who is looking for something to get involved with. You could be a Nanna or Gramp, Mum or Dad, friend or distant cousin. Everyone welcome.

Are you interested in any of the following?

  • Volunteering with nature activities in and around the Shiregreen area.

  • Doing work experience/ work placements on a nature project? (you could be at school or college).

  • Outside art/drama.

  • Offering advice and ideas.

  • Outside games you played as a child.

  • Gaining support and help you could use for job searches and education references.

If so, please call Claire at SOAR on 07944 688157.

Let’s get a breath of fresh air this summer!
